Windows Server RDS 2019 Licenses are built for organizations that need to give employees, partners, or administrators remote desktop access to business applications and shared company resources. Remote Desktop Services, often shortened to RDS, is a Microsoft technology that allows users to connect to a Windows-based environment from another device, whether they are working in the office, from home, or across multiple company locations. For many businesses, RDS remains a practical solution for centralized IT management, improving control, and supporting hybrid work without deploying a separate computer for every scenario.
Choosing the correct RDS licensing solution is important because it affects compliance, scalability, and cost efficiency. With Windows Server 2019, companies often select RDS licensing when they want a stable server platform, broad software compatibility, and a familiar Microsoft environment. In this category, you can find solutions such as Windows Server 2019 RDS 50 Device CALs and Windows Server 2019 RDS 50 User CALs, helping you match your purchase to the way your staff or devices actually connect.
Windows Server 2019 Remote Desktop Services is a Microsoft server role that enables remote sessions and centralized application delivery. It is commonly used in companies that want staff to access a shared desktop environment, run line-of-business software from a central server, or connect to work resources without being physically present in the office. Instead of installing and managing everything locally on each machine, administrators can host workloads on the server and provide controlled remote access to authorized users.
RDS can be useful in many real-world situations:
When buying Remote Desktop Services licenses, the most important step is understanding how access will be assigned in your organization. In general, businesses choose between User CALs and Device CALs. Both provide legal access to the RDS environment, but the right option depends on your usage pattern.
Windows Server 2019 RDS 50 User CALs are usually the best fit when one person needs to connect from several devices. For example, an employee may use a desktop computer in the office, a laptop at home, and a tablet while traveling. In this case, assigning one user-based license can be more efficient than licensing every device separately. User CALs are often preferred in flexible work environments, mobile teams, and companies where employees switch between devices throughout the day.
Windows Server 2019 RDS 50 Device CALs are often more suitable when several people share the same workstation or terminal. This is common in warehouses, reception areas, classrooms, production floors, call centers, and retail environments. If multiple users take turns on the same hardware, licensing the device can be the more practical and cost-effective licensing model.
Compatibility matters when purchasing server licenses. Windows Server RDS 2019 Licenses are intended for environments running Windows Server 2019. In practice, businesses should confirm their server version, Remote Desktop Services deployment structure, and user/device count before choosing a license pack. If your organization is standardizing its wider Microsoft environment, it may also be useful to review related categories such as Operating systems, Windows 11, and Windows 10 to ensure workstation compatibility across your network.
Businesses often use RDS alongside productivity tools and endpoint software. That is why many buyers also consider solutions from the Microsoft Office category, including Microsoft Office 2024 and Microsoft Office 2021, depending on their application needs and deployment plan. If endpoint protection is part of your purchasing decision, you may also review Antivirus licenses and Kaspersky for broader cybersecurity coverage.
Many customers want to understand the difference between OEM and Retail software licenses before buying. These terms generally describe how software is distributed and how flexible the license is after activation.
An OEM license is commonly intended for installation on a specific machine or original hardware environment. It is usually tied more closely to the first system on which it is activated and is often used in fixed IT infrastructures.
A Retail license is generally more flexible and allows for easier transfer depending on product terms. It is ideal for businesses that need long-term flexibility or expect to upgrade hardware over time.
The exact process can vary depending on your server setup, but the general installation and activation flow for RDS licensing is straightforward when your Windows Server 2019 environment is already prepared.

Yes, and this is actually a very common setup. You don’t have to choose only one type — Microsoft allows mixed licensing. For example, assign User CALs to remote or hybrid employees who use multiple devices, and Device CALs to shared office workstations. This hybrid approach often gives the best cost-efficiency.
RDS CALs must match the server version or be compatible with it. In most cases, newer CALs (2019) are not intended for older servers like 2016. The safest and recommended approach is to either upgrade your server to 2019 or purchase CALs that match your current server version to avoid activation or compliance issues.
Yes, but not immediately. Microsoft licensing rules generally allow reassignment, but typically only after a certain period (usually 90 days) unless the change is due to hardware failure or similar exceptions. This is important for HR-heavy environments where staff turnover is frequent.
In this case, Device CALs are the best option. You only need licenses for the 40 devices, not for every employee across shifts. Even if 120 different people use those computers throughout the day, the licensing is based on the device, which can result in significant cost savings.
It depends on your budget and pricing strategy. If you expect growth soon, buying a larger pack now can sometimes be more cost-effective. However, from a flexibility standpoint, many businesses prefer to start with what they need and scale gradually, especially if their structure (users vs devices) might change. Planning your licensing model early (User vs Device) is more important than buying everything upfront.
To build a complete and efficient IT environment around remote desktop solutions, many businesses
combine Windows Server RDS 2019 Licenses with modern Operating systems such as Windows 11
and Windows 10, ensuring full compatibility across devices. Productivity is often enhanced
with tools from Microsoft Office, including Microsoft Office 2024 and Microsoft Office 2021, while
Antivirus licenses and Kaspersky help strengthen overall endpoint security. For specialized needs,
businesses may also explore Computer programs, Autodesk, or value-driven options in the Bundle category,
alongside scalable options like Windows Server 2019 RDS 50 Device CALs and Windows Server 2019 RDS 50 User CALs.
